UNDER THE LINDEN TREE
You kissed me under the linden tree,
its branches our refuge..
the night was dark, the winds so fierce,
in a moment a deluge
as the drops came down upon the earth,
like missiles in a war..
your kisses kept me wrapped in bliss,
the storm seemed oh so far
and thunder rolled, the lightening flashed,
brief glow in sky was cast..
leaves trembled slightly, huddled in mass,
our cover green and vast
for though the sky had opened up,
and nature's wrath was brewing..
we could not see, we could not hear
for our hearts were busy wooing
yet so, alas we stole a glance
when droplets earthly bound...
broke through our shelter, leaves weak and moist,
our warm skin they had found
and hand in hand we made a run,
your shirt covering my head..
through rain, and mud, and thunder's roar
to the shelter up ahead
we laughed and sighed our eyes so bright..
our hearts filled to the brim..
with sweet emotion, childish glee,
and a passion deep within
the linden tree, so masterful,
so large and oh so wise..
protective spirit, and aged trunk,
so much he has surmised
we would return within his boughs
months later, once again...
to share a kiss and whisper words,
this time without the rain
the balmy breeze, the scent of green
by nature's own verdure...
had cast upon our summer night
a magic soft and pure
and underneath our linden tree
with moonlight bright in view..
twas then we knew our souls would speak,
they whispered "I love you".

A Linden Tree romance and "Moon River"!? My day couldn't have begun any lovelier! Thank you, Miss Sandra, and thank you, again! The melodies that fill my air while I'm having my first visit at Musings tell me "Yes, Cellar, you'll certainly be returning for more!"
Postscript: Is that you doing the ever-so-sweet warbling? Even lovelier then, if it be so!
I love your poetry - so very pretty and dreamy! :)
ReplyDeleteDear Cellar,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Harmonie House!! How lovely to see you and having you as one of my merry guests staying for tea. I'm so glad you enjoyed my poem, and the music. To answer your question, no, twas not me warbling the tune. Actually that's Audrey Hepburn singing Moon River. It does make a nice musical backdrop to my poem. *smiles* Please stop by often. I shall be visiting you at your delightful blog real soon!! Hope you're having a blissful day!
Dear Elizabeth,
Thanks so much! I know you've always been a fan of my poetry. I'm always happy to see you visit. How are things in your world? I hope the sun is shining your way and that bliss is constant in your life. Come back soon!
Hugs to you both..and some lavender scones too!
Sandra

How dreamy and lovely :)
ReplyDeleteI'm back ~~ I needed yet another "listen"! I had an inkling that maybe it was Miss Audrey's pipes playing, but then when I heard other selections during my visit here, the voices sort of sounded similar and I thought maybe just maybe... (And there I was, all ready to open my billfold and buy on of your CDs! lol)
ReplyDeletePostscript: Many thanks for the cockle-warming welcome!
Dear Dragon Li..
ReplyDeleteThank you so much dearest. I hope you've been well. Miss you much! Kisses for you and the munchkin.
Dear Cellar,
Welcome back! I'm tickled that you returned so soon! Funny that you were ready to purchase "my music". *chuckles* Actually, I have done a little bit of warbling in the past, but nothing too profound. Thank you for thinking so..tis quite the compliment! May happy moments moments follow your every step.
Hugs to you both dearies!
Sandra

Hi Miss Sandra! I've missed you....and haven't been by for a visit but it's always so warm and welcoming to come by. Your poetry is so dreamy and romantic..and how perfectly fitting to have Miss Audrey singing Moon River. *long sigh*
ReplyDeleteDear Vintage Sage,
ReplyDeleteI've missed you too! So glad to see you again and happy that you stopped by. I was long overdue for a poem...I guess inspiration sometimes takes longer than we hope, but at least it does come. So glad you liked it! I hope all is wonderful in your world, and blissful too of course! *smiles*

Oh, how I do love coming here! ("Moon River" touches our little souls, doesn't it?!) More posts, please? Thank-you!
ReplyDeleteP.S. DO please come for a visit: I Hope They Have Pudding, where an award awaits you!
Oh my goodness...Sandra, you are an incredible writer and poet....my God, really. This piece is such stunning. I have tried my hand at poetry, but it is always corny. Yours however, has a quality that is polished and true. Thank you for coming to visit my post this morning. It is NOT polished writing because I wrote it in haste while waiting for my husband to get ready to go to work. I take him, then I drive myself in the opposite direction! So, as a written piece, it stinks, but it was not intended to be a revised and edited piece. Thank you for your kind words and sincere sentiments; every word is a kind gesture of peace and love. Merci bien, Anita
